Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and a commentator working as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an undergraduate degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing to be a part of New York City. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began covering the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news reports, including arm control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
